Well, it’s an interesting group to say the least. Some of the personalities are larger than life. Together this group certainly fits that bill!
Charter members include Senator Greg Tarver, Shreveport Police Association president Sgt. Michael Carter, activist Craig Lee, Councilwoman Levette Fuller, Councilman John Nickelson, columnist Louis Avallone, and KEEL radio personality Erin McCarty. All of these are actively opposed to the three Shreveport bond propositions on the Nov. 16 ballot.
Councilman Grayson Boucher is a provisional member of the No Progress Coalition. Grayson says he will vote for proposition 2—for fire, police and SPAR. Boucher is a former fire fighter and his wife is a law enforcement officer.
Tarver was once an avid supporter of Adrian Perkins. Once Perkin’s relationship with Tarver’s daughter ended, Perkins suddenly had a mortal enemy.
Carter wanted to be the next Shreveport Police Chief. He was one of the three recommended by the mayor’s advisory committee.
Craig Lee is a two-time unsuccessful candidate for the Shreveport City Council. Lee regularly condemns any government initiative that is not his idea.
Fuller listens to her advisors from the Reform Shreveport group. And of course to her reputed sugar daddy, Bill Wiener.
After his election to the council, Nickelson became a self-proclaimed prophet of doom on all things at city hall. He quickly became the council’s anti-Perkins leader.
Avallone is chairman of the local Republican Party. He usually opposes any initiative proposed by a Democrat.
From the “git go”, McCarty has been on a mission to trash the bond propositions. Seemingly she has morphed into a Joe McCarthy anti-bond headhunter. (One can only wonder if the advertisers on her morning show share—or appreciate—her dedicated effort to tank the propositions.)
Thankfully, reputable Shreveport civic organizations have endorsed the bond propositions. Its no surprise that Carter’s police association has voted to oppose the bond propositions.
I was hoping to get a Christmas card from the No Progress Coalition. I expect it will get lost in the mail.
