Mike Corbin finished up 2 terms on the city council in December of last year. He is now the SWEPCO External Affairs Manager. Here’s the poop from Mike.

“City is responsible for all lights on I-20, I-220, 3132, Cross Lake Bridge, Jewella Overpass, half of Texas Street Bridge and one span of Shreveport Barksdale Bridge. DOTD requires notification and a permit to close lanes prior to working on lights on these roadways. City also responsible for Clyde Fant Parkway from Shreveport Barksdale to South end.

SWEPCO is responsible for Youree Drive for the most part. Problematic stretch from I-20 tp Stoner. Many lights are in the narrow median and when a vehicle takes out one light several go dark as they are wired together. We are also responsible for neighborhood streetlights unless owned by a Neighborhood/Homeowners Association. We address outages as reported (lights do not self report) and repair as crews are available. Priority is low when we have storm damage repairs or other scheduled work underway.

We have completed a trial of LED Streetlights in Shreveport (Fern Ave) and Bossier City (Melrose) with nothing but positive reviews from the public and elected officials. When PSC approves a rate structure for LED Streetlights we will begin replacing existing fixtures with LED as the fixtures malfunction.

Numerous street light outages have been caused recently when Centerpoint contractors or contractors doing Sewer Consent Decree work cut underground power lines.”
