The Caddo Parish Commission voted to approve the timeline and rules of procedure for selection to fill the Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters vacancy due to the retirement of Ernie Roberson. The timeline was approved by a 9-2 vote at a special called meeting of the Commission on July 18.

In order to comply with Louisiana Revised Statutes 18:51, the Parish adopted the following timeline:

July 22, 2019: The Parish will issue a press release regarding the vacancy and method of submitting applications. The Parish website and Facebook page will also advertise vacancy and method for submitting applications.

July 25, 2019: First ad in official journal (Caddo Citizen/Shreveport Sun) and The Shreveport Times will be published.

August 1, 2019: Second ad in official journal (Caddo Citizen/Shreveport Sun) and The Shreveport Times will be published.

August 8, 2019: Application Deadline – applications must be submitted by mail, email, or hand delivered to Caddo Commission’s Clerk Office.

August 12-13, 2019: The Parish Attorney’s Office will advise what candidates meet qualifications and notify the Commission Clerk’s office of those candidates.

August 19, 2019: Commission will meet to set interview dates, times and procedure for interview and final vote.

The requirements for the registrar are either:

a) Bachelor’s degree and two years full-time, professional work experience*.

b) Associate degree and four years full-time, professional work experience*.

c) Seven years of full-time, professional work experience*.

d) Five years full-time employment in a registrar’s office in Louisiana.

* Professional work experience is defined as experience in an occupation which requires specialized and theoretical knowledge usually acquired through college training or through work experience and other training which provides comparable knowledge.

There is no residency required for a candidate until the person has been selected. If not a registered voter in Caddo, the person must become a resident and registered voter of Caddo Parish.
