Yep–its still a mystery as to who Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins will nominated to be the next Shreveport permanent police chief.
The city council agenda for Monday’s work session was just posted. It has NOTHING on the police chief.
That means that this decision can NOT be made on Tuesday unless the council adds to the agenda the police chief nomination.
This will require a unanimous vote of the council. Seemingly all would vote to add this to agenda so this selection can be completed.
By state law, a new police chief must be selected within 60 days of a vacancy in that position.
Former SPD chief Alan Crump resigned effective July31. Thus, the time line to name a new chief is Sun. Sept. 29.
The mayor’s nomination must be confirmed by 4 council members. If not approved, then the mayor must submit another name–at another council meeting.
A special council meeting can be called by the mayor, the council chair, or 4 council members.
Notice of said meeting with an agenda must be published 24 hours in advance.
Thus, if Perkins’ nomination is not approved on Tuesday, a special council meeting can be called to consider a new name for police chief. This will give the administration additional time, if needed, to comply with state law on naming a replacement.
Perkins will have a press conference at 2 p.m. on Monday to "make an announcement regarding the position of Police Chief.”
