CORRECTED: LIQUOR STORE ON KINGS AND GILBERT NOW BACK ON COUNCIL AGENDA (NICKELSON’S DISTRICT)

The most controversial zoning vote of the Shreveport city council in 2018 will be back on the Oct.8 council agenda.

Bernie Woods, owner of a liquor store , wants to open a second location in an old Circle K building at 327 Kings Highway.

The MPC Board approved his request for a special use permit on a 6-3 vote.

The vote by the council was 3-3.

Willie Bradford, Jerry Bowman and James Flurry voted to approve the request.

Jeff Everson, Oliver Jenkins and Mike Corbin voted NO.

Stephanie Lynch was not at the meeting.

Litigation ensued. A Caddo court recently kicked the ball back to the council.

The lineup of the players is now different. James Green, Levette Fuller, John Nickelson and Grayson Boucher will address this zoning case for the first time.

Bradford, Bowman and Flurry are expected to again vote for the liquor store.

How the other 4 members will vote is currently unknown.

The store location is in councilman John Nickelson’s district. This will be first contested zoning case in his district during his term. His position is not yet known.
