CADDO ALLIANCE NEEDS TO GET IN TOUCH WITH REALITY

The Caddo Alliance for Freedom has bombarded the Caddo Commission with complaints about the Unified Development Code (UDC).

Many of their concerns are valid.

The prohibitions against boats, 4 wheelers and RVS that can be observed from the street are not congruent with the parish lifestyle. And for that matter, most of the properties in the city limits.

However the protestations over ANY zoning are foolish at best, and ridiculous at worst. Many speakers at a recent Commission meeting wanted repeal of the UDC and any zoning laws for parish properties. Sorta like "free range" living.

No matter how big their houses may be or how much acreage these speakers may own, they certainly should want SOME restrictions on land use in the parish. Like next to their homesteads.

Who wants a pig farm to be next to their pondersa? How about a scrap yard that takes in hazardous waste? Or maybe a 24 hour/7 day a week noisy manufacturing plant?

It’s time for the Caddo Alliance and those that support their cause take a step back, take a deep breath, and think logically. Changes in the UDC and perhaps the parish area it applies to are certainly worthy of consideration.

Total repeal of any zoning laws in the parish would be a major mistake.
