IF SHE WINS, CHU'S JUDGESHIP WILL BE ON HOLD

Trina Chu is a candidate for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She is challenging incumbent Jeanette Garrett.

Chu was  arrested on Aug. 4  and charged with  an intellectual property felony offense. Her arraignment was delayed at her request until after the Nov. 3 election.

On Oct. 7 she was suspended from the practice of law by the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Undoubtedly the Louisiana Office of Disciplinary Council will  institute disciplinary action against Chu. The ODC action is not dependent upon the court disposition of her criminal charges.

Chu will not be able to take oath as judge until she is reinstated by the Supreme Court.

It's  unlikely this will happen until the criminal charges and any ODC action is completed. And this will take many, many months if not a year.
