NOT JUST ANY CHRISTMAS TREE

MARYANNA MAKENZIE

OK, my Christmas tree is all set up, and per usual, not a single present is under it, but it’s up. I find that a victory. Because normally I pull down my fake Christmas tree the week of Thanksgiving, but not this year.

This year I wanted to do something special.

So, last Friday I got myself a real Christmas tree. And I don’t mean just an ol’ Christmas tree from Home Depot, but a Christmas tree farm.

Let me tell you, it was magical, the smell of the crisp air with rows of Christmas trees. I mean, who could have dreamed of something so magical? It was as if I was living in a true Hallmark movie, which, if I can be perfectly honest, is my constant goal.

Hollis’s Christmas tree farm in Minden was full of Christmas cheer from the Christmas music spilling over the hills, the smell of a bonfire oozing out from the depths of the woods. Rows and rows of pines were scattered all over the hills. And then, hidden within the pines were the glorious cypress trees that reached nine feet.

To say the least, I was mesmerized. But how could you not be?

My little trip to this Christmas tree farm was a breath of fresh air. In a year full of unknown and worry, I was reminded of the simple things in life and the true meaning of Christmas. Picking out the perfect Christmas tree is not some grand event, but it was for me. It was a piece of un touched pure joy that not even this year could touch. It was pure bliss. A time to remember what the season is all about.

Christmas is not the time to worry about all the problems in the world, but rather a time to rejoice and be glad. So, if you are feeling a little off this year and want something to bring your mood up, go grab yourself a Christmas tree. I mean, I would recommend going to a local Christmas tree farm, but if you can’t, check out Home Depot or even Whole Foods. I’m telling you, it’s a mood booster. It’s a return to the basics.

Make this year special. Do something new and wholesome. Do something that reminds you of your childhood or the true meaning of Christmas. Let’s finish off 2020 in the best way: with joy and love.
