WILL COUNCILMAN BRADFORD REINTRODUCE CROSS BAYOU RESOLUTION?

The Shreveport city council next meets on Mon. Feb. 10 for its administrative conference. The regular meeting will be on Tues. Feb. 11.

Items to be on the council agenda for action are to be submitted to the council clerk by noon on Wed. preceding the meeting. Thus, under the council rules, Bradford must submit the resolution by noon tomorrow IF it is to be on the agenda.

The council rules provide that an item not on the agenda can only be added by unanimous consent.

The rules also require that a resolution can not be added to the agenda for action at the regular meeting unless it receives a second from another council member.

Both Councilmen James Green and Jerry Bowman, Jr. voted for Bradford's motion at the last meeting.

Councilman Green appeared with Councilwoman Levette Fuller at her news conference yesterday. Thus it can be assumed that he will NOT second any motion by Bradford on the Cross Bayou resolution.

And one can safely say that the four council members who voted down the resolution---Fuller, James Flurry , Grayson Boucher and John Nickelson--will not provide a "courtesy second" for Bradford.

That leaves Bowman.

During his first term on the council, Bowman was very judicious in bringing back up controversial failed actions. In fact, he never voted for the same.

Bowman has always taken a practical approach to his duties on the council. Its safe to say he will not allow this racially charged divisive issue to be reintroduced for council action.
