A RETURN OF THE ROARING TWENTIES?

A century separates 2020 from the Roaring Twenties, but in downtown Shreveport, the 1920s are still very much in view.

The decade was a Golden Age of downtown construction and newly minted millionaires made wealthy by oil flowing in north Caddo Parish were building structures that would bear their names. The 1920s saw the construction of the Lane and Johnson office buildings, the Downtown YWCA, the Feibelman’s/ Sears Department store (now Lofts at 624), the original Central Fire Station (now Central ARTSTATION), the original downtown library (now Shreveport Chamber of Commerce) and the current Caddo Parish Courthouse.
