Nothing like the recent COVID-19 pandemic gets us thinking more about the vital importance of blood donations. According to LifeShare Blood Centers, one in three people will need blood in their lifetime.

There are often public service calls and announcements for the vital need of some blood types, especially O donors. Types O negative and O positive are both in high demand. Only 7% of the population are O negative. However, the need for O negative blood is the highest because it is used most often during emergencies. The need for O positive is high because it is the most frequently occurring blood type (37% of the population). Type O negative is the “universal donor” since these blood types can give to any other type.
