TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK -- THAT IS THE QUESTION

Volunteers help create, donate masks
To wear a face mask or not?

Last Friday, the president recommended that Americans wear basic cloth or fabric masks when in public to reduce the transmission of the COVID-19.

The move from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is aimed to reduce the risk of people who are currently infected, but asymptomatic, from spreading the virus.

The N95 respirator masks filter out 95% or more of particles of all sizes and are the ones worn by health-care workers.

However, there is an extreme shortage of these masks, so they need to be reserved for health-care workers. Surgical masks, which protect large droplets, but not small droplets, should also be reserved for the health-care sector. Even so, these types of masks are not appropriate for the general public. They are usually properly fitted and not designed for day-to-day activity.
