John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

SHREVEPORT VOLUNTARY FURLOUGHS SAVE $397,700


The city of Shreveport offered a voluntary furlough program in an effort to address anticipated budget losses due to COVID-19.

The furloughs extent through year end.

The budget savings are projected to be $397,700.

Here is the breakdown:

Shreveport Police—11 approved, 5 disapproved, 1 opted out
Shreveport Fire—2 approved, 1 disapproved, 1 opted out
Finance--2 approved, 0 disapproved, 1 opted out
Information Technology—8 approved, 0 disapproved, 3 opted out
MPC—1 approved, 0 disapproved, 1 opted out
Public Works—14 approved, 0 disapproved, 2 opted out
Community Development—4 approved, 0 disapproved, 1 opted out
Engineering—2 approved, 0 disapproved, 1 opted out
Property Standards—1 approved, 0 disapproved, 0 opted out
SPAR—89 approved, 2 disapproved, 19 opted out
Water & Sewer—0 approved, 46 disapproved, 0 opted out

TOTAL APPROVED—134

TOTAL DISAPPROVED—54

TOTAL OPTED OUT (After approval) - 30

These furloughs obviously will impact the delivery of services by each of the listed departments.

The budget salary savings did preclude, at this time, a projected involuntary furlough program.
