CADDO COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING: PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE AROUND CONFEDERATE MONUMENT AND FACE MASK AGE CHANGED

The Caddo Commission held a special meeting today Tuesday.

On an 11-1 vote, the commission administration was directed to build a protective box around the Confederate Monument on the Caddo Parish court house grounds.

The box is to be completed by Friday midnight.

The box will display on the north side the American flag, on the south side the Louisiana flag, on the east side the city of Shreveport flag and on the west side the Caddo Parish flag.

The purpose of the structure is to both defuse racial tensions and protect the structure until final resolution of an eviction action pending in Caddo district court. When a ruling is handed down, appeals are expected.

The Commission also voted 11-1 to change the mandatory age for children to wear masks from 2 years old to 8 years old. This coincides with the Gov. Edward's statewide mandate.

Commissioner Todd Hopkins was the dissenter on each vote.

Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts made the motion on the protective structure and had appropriate details for construction.

The Commission is to be commended on both of these votes.
