EXPENSE FOR BOX AROUND CONFEDERATE MONUMENT IS MONEY WELL SPENT

The Caddo Commission is completing the construction of a protective box around the Confederate Monument located at the Caddo courthouse.

The costs for this project are estimated to be approximately $20,000.

The "Box" will remain in place until the monument is relocated.

The  Commission has approved funding, not to exceed $500,000, for this endeavor.

As of this writing Shreveport is the ONLY Southern city to have escaped damage to Confederate monuments.

And so far, Shreveport has not experienced racial violence and property destruction experienced by many cities.

The BOX will hopefully serve two very important functions.

The first is to prevent damage to the monument.

The second is to ease racial tensions.

The Commission is be commended for taking this very proactive step.
