Caddo Council on Aging (CCOA) Meals on Wheels program provides five nutritious, well-balanced meals to over 1,100 homebound senior citizens.
The program ensures seniors age 60 or older have access to adequate nutrition when family support, mobility, and resources are insufficient. Just as donations assist CCOA in providing more meals, volunteers do as well. Meals are delivered Monday through Thursday; a frozen meal is delivered on Thursday for Friday by volunteers and paid drivers. Isolated seniors are comforted in knowing someone will check on them at least four days per week. They strive to make it convenient for volunteers; with a flexible pickup time, volunteers can deliver meals during their lunch break.
They are looking for individuals, civic groups, businesses, etc. to designate one hour each week. Most of our volunteers say it's the relationships formed , that make their time donated to Meals on Wheels well worth it. A contactless delivery process is provided to keep the seniors and volunteers safe. All volunteers attend a short orientation and agree to a background check.
