REVIEW OF CANDIDATES FOR VACANT SHREVEPORT COUNCIL SEAT
Ten people submitted their resumes for selection by the Shreveport city council votes to fill the District E seat vacated by the resignation of James Flurry.
The council heard from these applicants at a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 2.
The Shreveport City Charter requires that an individual must be registered to vote in the district and be a resident of the district at the time appointed to the council.
• Henry L. Armington was not considered because his voter registration was not in the district.
• Chandler Douglas has worked at Barksdale Air Force Base since 2019 as a financial analyst. He is an ordained minister and has served as an election’s commissioner. He is a Southwood High School graduate.
• Tamika Fredieu has worked as a "paraprofessional" with the Caddo Parish School Board since 2003. She has been previously employed by Balentine Hopkins Head Start. She earned an early Childhood associate's degree from Southern University Shreveport in 2005.
• Jon Glover currently works as an independent contractor with AFS Logistics, and she is retired from the Caddo Parish School Board. She has degrees from Kaplan University and Northeast Louisiana State University. She previously served in the Louisiana National Guard. She is a contributing columnist for Focus SB.
• Durwood Hendricks Jr. has worked at Barksdale Air Force Base since 2011 as member of the United States Air Force Reserve. He was appointed to the Caddo Parish School Board to fill the unexpired term of Larry Ramsey; he unsuccessfully ran for the school board seat in the fall of 2018. He is the president of the Southern Hills Neighborhood Association and serves on the Shreveport Caddo Zoning Board of Appeals.
• Kenny Houston has been the chief operating officer of Pelican Bayou Counseling Agency since 2014. He previously was employed at the Methodist Children's Home as a mental health specialist. He has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in criminal justice from Grambling State University.
• Matthew (Matt) Kay is the owner of MNK Properties, which "buys, rehabs and rents properties in the Shreveport area." He is also the owner (KMD Digital Solutions). He was actively involved as a political consultant in many Shreveport 2020 political campaigns and most recently with Tommy Chandler's Bossier mayoral race. He serves as treasurer of the Caddo Republican Parish Executive Committee and is a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee. He has a bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University Shreveport.
• Lawrence Lane's resume states that he has been a Shreveport city attorney intern since 2021. It also lists parttime employment with Lowe's since 2019. He is a Southwood High School graduate, and he is currently enrolled at Southern University Shreveport in computer science.
• Alvin Oliver has been the chief executive officer of Saundra LeFail Minority Transport, LLC since 2014. He was the owner-operator of O and C Transport from 2005 until 2014. He is the host of a KOKA "Keeping It Real Radio" show, and he is a veteran.
• Gregory Lynn Williams has worked for Nabisco for 28 years. He is a Fair Park High School and Southern University graduate.
The council will meet on Monday, December 6 at 9:00 a.m. to decide the new District E council member.
