GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Governor John Bel Edwards recently announced the states' plan for the $216 million received from the federal government for road and infrastructure projects.

These funds can be used at the state's discretion. This stimulus is to offset lost revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

These projects were hand-picked by the Department of Transportation and Development. They were selected because of the needs already identified through analysis, legislative, and public input.

Local projects included are:

1. LA 173 from LA 1 to U.S. 71, asphalt overlay, $900,000.
2. I-20 from Monkhouse Dr. east to Greenwood Rd. at I-20/I-49, $15 million.

The funding allocation also includes electric vehicle charging infrastructure statewide ($11.3 million), metropolitan planning organizations with populations over 200,000 ($19.9 million), and $26 million to district offices for regional congestion relief and equipment replacement.
