Shreveport’s Environmental Court had its first contested appeal on Tuesday.
The house at 126 Jordan St. had accumulated 13 citations over the past year that dealt with debris on the property and in the alley behind the house.
Next door neighbors appeared at the administrative hearing and complained of many rats coming from that dwelling as well as the clutter around the premises.
The property owner is Jordan Street, LLC, which is owned by local attorney Claire White.
Gary White, Claire’s son, is an occupant of the dwelling, and he is responsible for the debri in the yards and alley.
Shreveport’s environment code provides for citations both on the property owner and occupants. It provides that if fines are not promptly paid, then a lien is placed against the property.
Hearing officer Shanerika Fleming ordered $975 in fines and a $200 administrative fee to be paid in 30 days,
Fleming also ordered that the citations be abated within five days, with fines of $75 per day thereafter if not accomplished.
Both Claire and Gary White have the right to appeal the decision to the Caddo District Court.
