WHY SHOULDN’T MAYOR-ELECT CHANDLER NAME HIS CAO?

Tommy Chandler took office as Bossier City mayor Thursday, July 1.

The Bossier Council meets on Tuesday, July 6.

An important agenda item is confirmation of Chandler's selection of a chief administrative officer (CAO).

Chandler wants Shane Cheatham to be his CAO. Cheatham obviously has strong support in south Bossier, where he trounced the incumbent Scott Irwin earlier this year.

There is political scuttlebutt that the council may not approve Chandler's CAO selection.

This would be historic. All prior Bossier mayors have had their CAO selections approved. There are no logical reasons not to approve Cheatham other than petty politics.

Bossier citizens should contact Bossier council members David Montgomery, Jeff Free, Jeff Darby and Bubba Williams to register their support for Chandler and Cheatham. These are the returning council members.

Chris Smith and Vince Maggio will be sitting for the first time as council members at this meeting. They should be contacted as well.

If Bossier is to continue its course as a progressive city, the CAO vote should be a unanimous confirmation.
