SHREVEPORT CITY COUNCIL NEEDS TO ADDRESS EMERGENCY GENERATORS AT SHREVEPORT AIRPORTS

Add it to the list of actions by the Shreveport Airport Authority that many consider reflective of a private kingdom versus a public agency.

A recent public records request was made for inspection and maintenance records of the emergency standby generators of the Shreveport Airport Authority (SAA) for both the Shreveport Regional Airport and the Shreveport Downtown Airport.

Actually both requests were much more expansion. They asked for records of all inspections, tests, repair work orders or requests, or service invoices, or other maintenance records including emails, text messages, or other correspondence for the period of July 1, 2016 through July 16, 2021.

The city attorney's office objected to the request stating the request "seeks documents which are not public records as it seeks information which constitutes critical infrastructure information".

The Louisiana Public Records Act incorporates the definition of "critical infrastructure information" as set forth in federal law as 'information not customarily in the public domain and related to the security of critical infrastructure or protected systems..."

Emergency generators are critical to the operation of both airports. And much like the problems with the jetways, any issues with the generators should be promptly addressed.

The Shreveport City Council should ask for a detailed response from new airport director Stephanie Tucker at its Tues. meeting, whether in the open meeting or an executive session.
