The city of Shreveport has just filed litigation in Caddo district court against Live Oak Environmental, Waste Connections Bayou, Bayou Belle Waste, Louisiana Environmental Services, Get Rid Of IT America, and Waste Options for failing to comply with a city ordinance requiring the dumping of solid waste collected within the corporate limits in the city's Woolworth Road Landfill.
The suit alleges a substantial revenue loss from operation of the landfill due to the noncompliance by these companies who are paying less at landfills outside the city limits. The pleadings further state that the city's $7 sanitation fee was necessitated by the loss of revenue resulting in an operating deficit for the landfill that must be subsidized by the city's General Fund.
The litigation seeks injunctions against the companies for using any other landfill than Woolworth for solid waste collected within the city limits. It also seeks damages for lost income from Woolworth Landfill fees by these companies.
