MAYOR-ELECT ARCENEAUX TRANSITION TEAM COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS RELEASED
The days are getting shorter and shorter until mayor-elect Tom Arceneaux becomes the sworn in mayor.
Today's press release from "Tom Arceneaux Shreveport Mayor" named the Administrative Transition Committee. (Note: the presser did NOT say mayor elect.)
Former Shreveport chief administrative officer Tom Dark is the chair. He is joined on the committee by former city attorney William Bradford, former city council clerk Art Thompson, former Shreveport CAO and then Chief Financial Officer Sherricka Field-Jones, and current city council man Shreveport attorney John Nickelson.
Yesterday's presser defined the duties of this committee:
"This committee is responsible for advising the mayor elect on transitional responsibilities related to operations that occur between Election Day and the Mayor-Council Inauguration to be held on Dec. 31.2022.”
Ok, the mayor was elected last Sat. Dec. 10. Today is the fifth day since Arceneaux's victory.
Presumably the following key positions will be empty on Dec. 31:
-Chief administrative officer
-Mayor's administrative staff including executive assistant, policy advisor/attorney, two information officer slots, and others
-City attorney
-Chief financial officer, who is now an interim and may be out of Family Medical Leave.
All of these committee members are well qualified to serve on this committee and their collective institutional knowledge is immense and much needed.
Hopefully team members will be at city hall tomorrow visiting these offices learning upcoming deadlines and responsibilities, etc.
Evidently Will Bradford is the spokesperson for Arceneaux. He need to be prepared to answer hard questions on this committee. Better yet, a press conference with Arceneaux is needed to enlighten the public on who will be where on Jan. 2.
