WHY I AM VOTING FOR THE CADDO SHERIFF'S OFFICE TAX RENEWALS

I have lived in Shreveport since being transferred to Barksdale Air Force Base in January 1977. And I have always lived in the city limits, not out in the parish.

On Saturday, March 26, I will be voting to renew five propositions that help fund the Caddo Sheriff's Office and its duties to Caddo citizens.

All of these are renewals, so they are not new taxes.

I realize that the word "taxes," whether a new tax or a renewal, can send many readers into a tizzy evoking profanity, ugly emails and temper tantrums.

I confess that I have always voted for these tax renewals for many reasons:

1. I recognize the importance of law enforcement throughout Caddo Parish.

2. I acknowledge that the Caddo Sheriff's Office has a well-deserved reputation for fiscal responsibility.

3. I appreciate that the Caddo Sheriff's Office has important functions in providing security for the Caddo Courthouse and Government Plaza.

4. I understand that the Caddo sheriff has expenses housing those accused of crimes and convicted of crimes at the Caddo Correctional Center.

5. I accept my responsibility as a Caddo resident to support government functions that benefit the entire community.

I urge all voters to get out and to vote yes on all five propositions on Saturday, March 26.
