BOUCHER'S COUNCIL SERVICE MERITS HIS RE-ELECTION

By John E. Settle, Jr.

District D has been well served by Grayson Boucher since his election.

Boucher's background gives him singular insight on many issues that have come before the Council during this term.

He is a well-respected real estate appraiser.

His work sends him all over Shreveport, giving him knowledge of the entire city, its streets, its residences and neighborhoods.

Much like former Councilman James Flurry, Grayson was elected as a justice of the peace.

This experience dealing with both legal issues and people appearing before him prepared him for council service dealing with ordinances and citizens with differing concerns.

Lastly, but just as importantly, Grayson's service as a fireman for over 20 years is a major plus for him on the council.

Grayson has been with the Shreveport Fire Department and then served as chief for Fire District No. 5, where he supervised employees and had an annual operating budget of over $1.5 million.

Boucher has taken his council responsibilities seriously.

He comes to meetings prepared; he asks cogent questions and limits his comments to relevant issues with no grandstanding.

Boucher makes himself available to the media and his constituents.

Boucher has set a high bar for other council members.

He is a strong advocate for good government for all Shreveport citizens, no matter where they live.

His leadership will be very important on the new council since at least three members (LeVette Fuller, John Nickelson and Jerry Bowman) will not be returning.

With the odds of appointed council member Alan Jackson being elected in District E in considerable question, there could be four new faces on this body.

With his record of service, Grayson should be back at the city council horseshoe for a second term.

Yes, I have disagreed with some of his votes, as I have with all the council members.

But I have never doubted his sincerity, diligence or commitment to making our city better for all citizens.

I have encouraged him to seek re-election, and I hope my readers will do so as well.
