TIME FOR COUNCILMAN JACKSON TO SLOW DOWN AND FACT CHECK

Goodness...Shreveport councilman Alan Jackson is certainly feeling his oats after being sworn in as an elected versus interim council member on Dec. 31.

He has lamented crime in the city, and even before the horrible weekend incident in MLK area the was all in on the city installing more crime cameras. Jackson along with other on council urged city to quickly install the remaining crime cameras and purchase more.

Now, Jackson wants to create a Director of Council Affairs that has many duties with seven chiefs but only be supervised by the council chair. All this at $100 grand salary and benefits and a bag of chips!

And he is insisting on an up or down vote on the resolution today and the ordinance in two weeks.

What's the rush?

Is crime prevention and resolution more important than council PR?

Jackson objected to Mayor Arceneaux’s announcement that he was disbanding the Economic Development office. Jackson stated that the city charter required this position.

Wrong.

Not in the charter.

In a KEEL radio interview this morning Jackson praised the service of prior city attorney Ron Lattier.

Jackson said Lattier saved the city $11 million.

Hmmmm.

How?

When?

If the reference was to the refi of existing bonds at lower interest rates, then that is a no brainer that lined the pockets of bond counsel who are ever vigilant for opportunities to sell/package/refinance bond indebtedness.

It’s time for Jackson to slow, get his facts straight, and look at the forest versus his pet tree.
