DOES GOSPEL CONCERT FUNDRAISER FOR WHITEHORN JEOPARDIZE NON-PROFIT STATUS OF CHURCH?

The Family Life Church of Shreveport is hosting a Gospel Music for Whitehorn fundraiser this Friday.

The posting has several local religious leaders.

The Internal Revenue Service issues non-profit status letters to many entities including churches. These letters entitle donors to these institutions to deduct donations on tax returns. Political activities are forbidden for those issued non-profit IRS exemption letters.

The scheduled gospel concert fund raising event clearly is political in nature.

It is not known if the Family Life Church of Shreveport has an IRS tax exemption status. Presumably it does, and if so, this concert may result in the revocation of the same. Similarly, contributions directly to the Family Life Church that are then funneled to Whitehorn probably are not tax deductible.
