CADDO SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE DIXON CHALLENGES CANDIDATE SMITH-IVERSON

Darrin Dixon is the interim Caddo School Board representative for District 7. Dixon was appointed by the board to fill the seat held by Barbara Smith-Iverson after a Caddo court vacated her position in June of this year.

The election to fill the unexpired term of Smith-Iverson is in Mar. of next year. Dixon and Smith-Iverson both qualified for this position.

Dixon filed a suit yesterday (Thurs.) challenging the candidacy of Smith-Iverson on the basis that she did not meet the qualifications to be domiciled in the district for a year prior to filing.

The case was assigned to Caddo district judge Brady O'Callaghan and it will be heard on Wed. of next week.

Dixon's case cited the June 2 decision in the case filed by Caddo DA James Stewart that ruled that Smith-Iverson was a resident of Bossier Parish. Since Smith-Iverson was not a resident in June, Dixon argues that she could not have established a one-year residency since June.

It is expected that O'Callaghan will disqualify Smith-Iverson.
