ONLY THREE COUNCIL MEMBERS ATTENDED PRESS CONFERENCE ON OFFICER SHOOTING

Its unfortunate when the media does not accurately report facts.

Many media reports on yesterday's press conference stated that "Shreveport city council members attended the press conference" or words to that effect.

To the casual reader this reporting was interrupted to be ALL seven council members attended the press conference.

The reality is that only three council members were at the event yesterday--James Green, Tabatha Taylor, and Alan Jackson. Council members Ursula Bowman, Gary Brooks, Jim Taliaferro, and Grayson Boucher were NOT in attendance.

Similarly, there were reports that the council called the press conference.

The council did NOT meet and vote to have the press conference. Not all seven council members were

contacted about the event before it was announced.

In reality it is not known who instructed the council clerk to issue the press release announcing the press conference, who called to schedule the conference at SPD, invited ministers, SPD Chief Wayne Smith, Mayor Tom Arceneaux, etc.

It can be assumed that council president James Green, Taylor and/or Jackson made these decisions.

Accurate, understandable reporting is the inherent obligation of the media. Innuendos that mislead the public should not be acceptable to the media supervisors much less the general public.
