CADDO COMMISSIONER EPPERSON CHAMPIONS BOOK FREEDOM AT CADDO LIBRARIES
HAT'S OFF to Caddo Commissioner Ken Epperson for inviting Shreve Memorial Library Executive Director John Tuggle to address the Commission at its work session on Mon.
Tuggle explained the library's policies on reading guidelines for publications that some consider to be "controversial."
The library has age appropriate restrictions for its books and allow parents to further limit access to their children of certain publications.
Epperson is correct that the growing movement in Louisiana is a veiled attack on free speech, free press, and equal rights. And unfortunately, it has now reached Congress.
Tuggle explained that the library's mission is to provide educational opportunities on all social topics including race and sex gender without censorship.
Tuggle’s comments were well received by Commission members who have consistently supported social progress in all areas.
