APOLOGY FOR TERMINOLOGY OFFENSIVE TO COUNCILMAN ALAN JACKSON
Goodness, in today's word there are so many words that sound ok to some, but not so to others.
Seemingly, the more education a person may have the more sensitive they become to any terminology.
Such is the case with Shreveport councilman Alan Jackson, who has a doctorate degree.
I am known for wearing hats.
Jackson is known for wearing large butterfly bowties.
I have been called by others in a joking manner the "hat boy”, the "brim boy", and the "lid boy." And even the "paper boy."
In two recent blogs--NOT published in FOCUS SB--I referred to Jackson as "bowtie boy." The alliteration of this term is much better than "bowtie man."
At a recent council meeting Jackson said that he is a role model to many in the community and this reference was derogatory to him. I assume that the people he referred to read my blog, or maybe he shared it with them?
So, for those that read this blog, I apologize to Jackson for this terminology.
In the future I may refer to him as "Mr. bowtie" or "bowtie man."
Hopefully these monikers will not insult Jackson.
If he is waiting for me to refer to him as "Dr. Jackson", then he can continue to wait.
I only refer to those with medical/dental degrees as "Doctor."
This is my choice of terminology, which surely Jackson can respect.
