MANY QUESTIONS THAT NEED TO BE ANSWERED ABOUT SFD STATION 20

Shreveport Fire Station 20 has been closed due to "environmental concerns", specifically black mold.

Here are some questions that need to be answered by SFD Chief Reece:

1. How long have there been complaints of black mold at this station?

2. How many firemen have contracted cancer and/or other serious illnesses of SFD personnel that worked at this station?

3. What moneys have been spent on maintenance of this station since it was opened--and who paid these costs--the City of Shreveport or the Caddo Bossier Port that owns the station?

4. Where at the Port have the firemen and equipment been relocated to?

5. What is the distance from Station 20 to the new location of the firemen/equipment?

6. What is the additional response time with the new location and how will this effect fire prevention, fire ratings, etc.?

7. What is the Port's responsibilities in re this station and is there a MOU or CEA between the City and the Port on the station?

8. What other options were considered for relocating the firemen/equipment other than at the Port?

9. Who will be responsible for remediation of the black mold--the City or the Port?

10. What is the anticipated down time for remediation?

There are probably more questions that should be answered and hopefully they will be addressed by the City Council next week at its Mon. work session.
