WILL SHREVEPORT COUNCIL CLERK FLEMINGS BE TERMINATED?

The Shreveport City Council meets today (Mon.) for its work session and tomorrow (Tues.) for its regular meeting.

An agenda item is listed as “employment status of council clerk.” Clerk Shanerika Flemings has been a source of controversy since her hire earlier this year.

Here are the reasons to terminate Flemings. She is a non-classified employee, and she can be fired anytime, without cause.

1. Clerk office staff/workload: 5 Employees for 7 council members, less than 45 meetings of council and committees this year. Commission has 3 employees for 12 commissioners, over 75 meetings of commission and committees this year.

2. Not vetted when hired, Green selected her. Green did not seek input from any of you; no advertising of position to get best person

3. Paygate instigator: She asked for raise first which prompted my two senior in time employees to ask for raises. Did not advise Green or did not know council had to approve.

4. Past performance in Perkins admin. and in clerk’s office: She illegally changed city's insurance carrier, paying more money for less coverage. She started as Perkins chief legal advisor and then insisted on being named chief of staff which caused much dissension. She has never supervised employees and she has been source of dissension in clerk’s office

5. Negative for passage of bond package: Paygate has caused an uproar that could kill passage of bond package. She is as culpable as Green and the four can make a statement to the public as well as Green by sending her to the house.
