REGISTRAR SIBLEY’S ASSOCIATION WITH LAW FIRM RAISES QUESTIONS
Dale Sibley is a licensed Louisiana attorney.
He was appointed the Caddo Registrar of Voters in Oct. 2019.
Ron Christopher Stamps is a Caddo assistant DA. He also maintains a private practice of law—Ron Christopher Stamps, LLC. Registrar Sibley is listed on the firm's website with commercial litigation, municipal litigation, and administrative law as areas of practice.
Stamps has made many contributions in local elections in recent years. The most recent was $1,500 to Caddo Sheriff Candidate Henry L. Whitehorn.
In his appearance last Thursday January 18 Sibley advised the Commission that he was a "no party" voter and that he took great steps to appear apolitical because of his position as Registrar.
These facts raise two questions.
The first is most important--should Sibley be a full-time registrar and not be practicing law?
The second is do campaign contributions by Stamps negate Sibley's declaration that is "apolitical"?
Sibley is a public employee and thus his activities associated with his position are subject to public review. His appointment to the life-time position does not exclude him from public scrutiny.
