MAJORITY OF SHREVEPORT COUNCIL SPONSORS RESOLUTION TO PURCHASE LINE AVE. PROPERTY FOR POLICE SUBSTATION
The 2024 bond package that was overwhelming passed by Shreveport voters provided funds for the establishment of three police substations.
Ground has been broken on a west Shreveport substation and a north substation. To date no action has been taken by the Arceneaux administration on identifying a location in southwest Shreveport for a substation. If there has been efforts, the council and the public have not been informed.
The Shreveport Council meets tomorrow, Friday, at 3 p.m. in a combined work session and regular meeting. The agenda I just posted encourages the Mayor to negotiate the purchase of the property and improvements at 8509 Line Ave to be used as a police substation.
The location has many amenities to support a substation. It actually has two buildings, one behind a security gate. The property has easy access to Line Ave, adequate parking and a large grassy area that can be converted to additional parking.
The resolution is sponsored by council members Gary Brooks, Jim Taliaferro, Grayson Boucher and James Green. It is expected that it will pass unanimously. Although it is not binding on the Mayor it will certainly send a much needed message to his Administration.
