WHERE ARE SALES TAXES FROM BIG DOWNTOWN  HUMOR AND HARMONY FESTIVAL EVENT?

Liz Swaine with the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate reports that the Caddo-Shreveport Sales and Use Tax Commission does not have the August sales tax numbers from the downtown area.

The commission lacks the sales tax money/numbers collected from the events at the G-Dome, the celebrity basketball game at Expo hall, the events at Municipal Auditorium and events at the Shreveport Convention Center. Without these numbers it is not possible to compute the impact of the August festival.

The Sales and Use Tax Administrator will subpoena records from Ticketmaster and other ticket vendors to obtain this information.

There were many pop-up vendors in the downtown entertainment zone, and it is unlikely that they reported sales tax numbers.

This is further evidence that the pot of gold promised by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson for the City of Shreveport from his arrival is an illusion. This information should be seriously considered by the Shreveport City Council if asked to approve a sweetheart lease of Expo Hall to Jackson.
