North Louisiana Interfaith (NLI) is a non-profit corporation based in Shreveport.
The Secretary of State website lists the registered office at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church on Ellerbe Road. Susan Caldwell, the Director of Lifespan Religious Education at All Souls, is the registered agent and an officer of NLI.
On Wednesday of this week NLI sponsored a meeting at the Highland Center on Olive Street for the express purpose, as reflected on NLI website:
"For a mid-week analysis on voter turnout by precinct. This analysis will inform action steps for the remainder of early voting and our strategy leading up to Election Day."
Reportedly, the analysis at this meeting was focused on turnout on precincts with majority African American voters. And discussions including party affiliations of the Caddo sheriff candidates.
Interfaith has frequently crossed the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) non-profit status line between "education" versus "advocating" in its efforts to defeat tax exemptions for new businesses by local governing bodies. The actions of NLI could jeopardize the IRS non-profit status of donations to NLI, and especially those dealing with the Sheriff's election.
Future efforts of NLI between now and the end of voting on Saturday, March 23 will be closely monitored.
The IRS non-profit status of NLI could very well be in jeopardy.
