MAJOR BUCKS FOR DISTRICTS A AND F IN BOND PAKCAGE DESPITE NON ENDORSEMENT BY TAYLOR AND GREEN
It becomes more and more evident each month that council members Tabatha Taylor of District A and James Green of District G will use any means to foil Mayor Tom Arceneaux, even if it means cutting off their noses to spite their faces.
Taylor is still ticked off that her BFF Ron Lattier was not retained by Mayor Tom as City Attorney. No telling why Green still carries a grudge--maybe from his arrest for assaulting a local retail worker when he barged into an optical shop or maybe the stop by SPD for windows tinted too dark. After all, he is a self-proclaimed "certain person."
Taylor should be happy that the Arceneaux administration installed a traffic light on Kings Highway at the entrance into The Haven subdivision where Lattier lives. At the end of the Council's work session on Monday Green told Taylor that this should help her going to and from Lattier's house.
Both of the malcontents endorsed Adrian Perkins in the last mayor's race. They then endorsed Senator Greg Tarver in the run-off election.
Maybe it’s a "God thing". Taylor goes to the church owned by Green and usually totes the water for her pastor. Green's comments from the council dais often are not reflective of a Man of God, but then that’s a different discussion. But we all know that God works in mysterious ways.
For an unexplained reason both Taylor and Green wanted the bond package to be on a November ballot--which would delay the start of improvements and most likely increase the cost of improvements. Having the bond package on the November ballot would probably doom the prospects of passage because of more voters in presidential election.
In other words, Taylor and Green do NOT want the bond package to pass. So much for their undying loyalty to their districts, which they constantly complain have been overlooked for city improvements. In this bond package both Taylor's District A and Green's District F get "fair" treatment. But "fair" is a four letter word and its interpretation is a matter of one's perspective.
Taylor's District A is slated to receive $23.8 million from the bond package. Green's district F has $25.9 million in the bond package. District E has the highest amount in the package at $39 million, but $25 million is for one sewer project. Only District D has more bond money than District A at $24 million.
Each Council person was requested to appoint two persons to the Capital Improvements Bond Committee. Green delayed his appointments for several weeks and thus his appointees missed meetings. So much for his diligence as a council member which has been questioned by many in his district.
The residents in District A and District F collectively pay the least amounts of ad valorem taxes than any other District. Thus, they will receive more benefits from their tax dollars in the bond package than the residents in the other five council districts.
I hope the bond package passes--for the benefit of all Shreveport citizens including those who live in District A and District F. I am running editorials supporting the package in FOCUS SB each week and I started in the March 22 issue. These will run for six weeks and will be MORE coverage and support of the bond package than any other local media outlet.
