DISTRICT C RESIDENTS: WHAT'S IN THE BOND PACKAGE FOR YOU?
It’s a good question.
It’s important to remember that the three proposals are for the benefit of the entire city, not just District C. Please remember that District C residents go to other districts to work, play, shop, dine, visit, etc.
Here is a list of streets and drainage projects in and affecting District C:
1. Bridge Improvements/Replacements $8,000,000 (includes the Gilbert-Fern bridge)
2. Neighborhood Street Reconstruction for District C $6,800,000
3. Interstate Highway LED Lighting $7,000,000 (benefits entire city)
4. Traffic Signal Installation $600,000 (benefits entire city)
5. Water and Sewer
Amiss Water Plant $20,000,000 (benefits entire city)
Querbes Lift Station Upgrades $12,000,000
6. Police, Fire, and SPAR $49,300,000 (benefits entire city)
A. C. Steere Park Pickleball/tennis courts and playground resurfacing $500,000
Querbes Park--demo of pool and rec center, construction of multi-purpose room in golf clubhouse $1,300,000
7. Public Buildings $20,700,000 (benefits entire city)
The three proposals will not result in an ad valorem tax increase until 2027 due to the fact that several tax millages/bond payments will expire. Even then the increases are minimal.
There are many reasons District C residents should vote YES on all three bond proposals.
Early voting ends this Saturday, April 20, and the bond package is on the April 27 ballot, District C councilman Jim Taliaferro has endorsed all three bond proposals.
