Shreveport City Councilman Gary Brooks has placed on the agenda for the Shreveport City Council an amendment to revise the hours of operation for retail dealers of alcohol in the Downtown and Non-Downtown Zoning Districts for on-premises liability.
The proposed ordinance will NOT apply to the Shreveport casinos.
The amendment will reduce the hours of operation by two hours on all days of the week for the bars in both districts.
There may be pushback from bars that have substantial trade from service workers who usually start visiting the bars after 2 p.m. This amendment will cause a loss of business by local bar owners and push business to the casinos.
The earliest the proposed amendment can be passed into law is June 11.
Interestingly enough, Brooks is a bar owner that will be affected by his proposed amendment.
