The controversy over demolition of Fairgrounds Field continues.
The latest saga started under the Adrian Perkins administration. It was one of the many pressing issued inherited by Mayor Tom Arceneaux when he walked into office.
The City of Shreveport executed a contract for the demolition of Fairgrounds Field stadium in June of 2022. The contractor was Henderson Construction Services, Inc.
Litigation was filed by the Friends of Fairgrounds to enjoin the demolition on October 3, 2022. A restraining order was issued by the Caddo district court stopping demolition.
At the direction of Mayor Arceneaux, the City terminated the contract on January 6, 2023. Thereafter a claim was made by Henderson for additional money due to the contract cancellation.
In early March, a Release and Settlement of All Claims and Indemnity Agreement was executed between Henderson and the City. Under its terms the City agreed to pay Henderson $115,091 for a full release of all claims.
