Goodness, how quickly the tide can change when it comes to local happenings, like from great to bad.
On April 27, Shreveport voters overwhelmingly approved three bond proposals by historic margins. And that was after a joyous welcome of Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and his entourage on April 18.
Since the bond vote, there several happenings that certainly have taken the shine off the newly polished civic pride apple. These include, but are not limited to the following:
a. Random gunshot into a fire station
b. Shooting at the Boosie concert at festival plaza and after the concert street crowds and violence
c. Shreveport's water system grade of "F"
d. Water cut-offs by city at three apartment complexes and displacement of tenants
e. Decline in city's sales tax revenues
The Shreveport City Council has its work session on this coming Monday, May 13 and its regular meeting on the next day, Tuesday, May 14. It is likely that some if not all of these will be discussed by council members as well as citizens.
However, the sky is not falling over Shreveport. Comments by all need to be reasonable, non-accessory, no demeaning and/or demanding. Too often these meetings turn into made for TV drama recitations that serve no civic good.
