Geez...so much for company loyalty. And so much for good will for subscribers.
I have been a subscriber to the Shreveport Times since arriving here with the US Air Force in January 1977. And I still am--I get a hard copy by mail. Previously the paper was thrown by a carrier at my residence.
USA Today was launched on September 15, 1982. I have been a subscriber since January 1983. Being old school I had the paper thrown at my house like the Shreveport Times until home delivery was stopped. I now get the paper in the mail, usually several days after it was published.
Gannett owns USA Today and the Shreveport Times. Gannett is also the owner of over 400 newspapers nationwide.
My office had last subscribed in late May 2023 at $400 plus per year by using an office debit card. I had mistakenly authorized an automatic renewal.
Unfortunately, this subscription was recently renewed WITHOUT any prior email or text. With my Wall Street Journal and New York Times subscriptions I get a notification 5-7 days before a draw on my debit card with the opportunity to change/stop the subscription.
Upon discovery of the debit, I called USA Today to cancel the subscription and to request a pro-rata refund --7 days of getting the paper after renewal. And guess what--NO deal, sorry Charlie.
I was given the opportunity to stop the automatic renewal for next year--which I exercised. But nothing else from the national newspaper giant. And one wonders why Gannett is having circulation challenges at all of its papers nationwide.
Geez...what a reward for 40 plus years of loyalty!
