CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? THE CADDO COMMISSION WILL MEET NEXT WEEK

Well, it was a hot July.

There was the Fourth of July holiday.

Then six of the twelve commissioner traveled to  the annual  NACO (National Association County Organizations) Woohah in Tampa, Florida for a  four-day convention (July 12-July 15).

The month before--as in June--six of the twelve  Commissioners attended NOBCO (National Organization of Black County Officials) in Atlanta Geogia from June 5- June 9.

For those wondering, five of the six travelers to Atlanta also bought post cards in Tampa.

Geez, it’s a tough life going to all these out of town boondoggles while  receiving the highest monthly pay in NW Louisiana for a part-time elected gig.

None of the Atlanta convention goers provided any public information on what they learned at the convention--like the restaurants and bars they visited or if they attended an Atlanta Braves game on their trip.

Maybe at Monday's work session some info will be shared about the tax payer trip to Tampa. Reportedly the restaurants are great, the shopping is just out of this world and the deep sea fishing is a lifetime experience.

The big question, at least for this writer, is who spent the most money on the parish's dime in Tampa. The Atlanta big spenders were none other than the grizzled political veterans Roy Burrell and Ken Epperson who were  joined by newcomer Greg Young. Once that info is available, it will be published.

Asking for any meaningful knowledge learned about their job as elected officials from the convention goers will most likely be a waste of time. After going to the black only Atlanta convention Burrell stated in a commission meeting that he was elected to go to meetings.

The good news is that global warming benefited from the July Commission hiatus. Very little hot air came out of the abbreviated, as in very very short, meeting the day before July 4. However, one can expect the hot air fan will be on high on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the Government Plaza chamber. Bring your handheld fan and your BS filter if you attend.
