BOSSIER TERM LIMIT LITIGATION DRAWS BIG HIGH DOLLAR ATTORNEYS

Cassie Mae Rogers filed a lawsuit to compel the Bossier City Council to place the term limit charter provisions on the December ballot. A hearing is set in Benton before Judge Parker Self.

Mayor Tommy Chandler is a named defendant--any litigation filed against the city must name the mayor.

Chandler wants the term limit provisions to be placed on the ballot. Five of the council members oppose any ballot proposition. Thus, there is a conflict of interest in legal representation of the Mayor and the council.

Rogers is represented by Dannie P. Garrett, III from Baton Rouge. Chandler (and the two council members favoring the ballot proposition) is represented by Shreveport attorney Jerald Harper. The council majority will be represented by Baton Rouge attorney Andrew Kolb.

The shoot out at the OK Corral--actually the Bossier courtroom--is set for Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m. There is no doubt that these high dollar attorneys will be filing various motions before that date. One can expect the losing party to file an appeal.
