CITY'S INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR SHOULD BE AT COUNCIL MEETINGS

The City of Shreveport department heads are almost always in attendance at the council work sessions, and especially at the council regular meetings.

In the audience, one usually sees representatives from Public Works, Property Standards, SPAR, DOWUS, Shreveport Police and Shreveport Fire, City Attorney, and Community Development. In addition, frequent attendees include the director of Shreveport Airport Authority and SPORTRAN along with representatives of other city departments.

But guess who is rarely--if ever--in attendance? How about a representative from the city's Information Technology (IT) Department. Why is the operative question--especially yesterday after problems with the audio on the Public Safety Committee Meeting stream.

IT is a vital city department. It’s my opinion IT should have someone at the council meetings--and for that matter at the work sessions.
