Ever since Tommy Chandler took the oath as mayor of the City of Bossier on July 1, 2021, the status quo at Bossier City Council meetings was upended. With Mayor Lo Walker replaced as mayor and Jimmy Hall no longer the Bossier City attorney the dynamics of the meetings were changed irreparably.
The days of unanimous council votes on controversial issues ended. Disputes between the mayor and the majority of the council lead by David Montgomery were precedent setting. Active, vocal citizens frequently voiced their opinions at meetings and there were frequent verbal clashes between the citizens and Montgomery.
The term limits coalition started an active dialogue among Bossier citizens. And the so-called success of the term limit petition has been subject of litigation.
Tomorrow's agenda has a first and final reading of a resolution calling a special election to vote upon the adoption of amendments to the current City Charter of the City of Bossier City.
The agenda also has the first reading of an ordinance proposing amendments to two sections of the Bossier City Charter.
A recent court of appeal ruling that implied that a "no vote" by any council member on the proposed special election would be malfeasance has upped the heat on council members David Montgomery, Vince Maggio, Jeff Frees, Don "Bubba" Williams, and Jeffery Darby.
And adding to the cauldron is a resolution introduced by Darby to congratulate Donald Trump as the new president. All in all, it should make for good theatre at the council chambers starting at 3 p.m.
