NO NEW SPEED CAMERAS IN SHREVEPORT UNTIL LEGISLATURE ADJOURNS

The installation of speed cameras in Shreveport neighborhoods has been approved by the Shreveport City Council on a 4-3 vote. Grayson Boucher, Jim Taliaferro and Gary Brooks opposed the cameras.

The council action authorizes as many as 12 cameras throughout the city. The cameras will operate 24/7.

This morning, Shreveport Mayor Arceneaux stated on KEEL Radio, the Mike and McCarty show, that no cameras will be installed until the upcoming 2025 Louisiana Legislative Session adjourns. There is widespread speculation that the Legislature may outlaw all speed cameras or maybe just those in school zones.

Citizens upset with the council vote should direct their comments to the ringleaders of the speed cameras. Councilwomen Tabatha Taylor and Ursula Bowman, who have become best buds since assuming the position of council chair and council vice-chair, pushed for the cameras. Councilmen James Green, who coaches Taylor, and councilman Alan Jackson, who does not live in Shreveport, also voted for the cameras.
