‘LISTEN UP’: MIXED MESSAGING IS CONFUSING OUR COMMUNITY

BY:  BILLY ROY WAYNE

I just finished watching a news feature whereby what appears to be more than two dozen individuals lined up outside the LSU/ Ochsner health-care facility. The feature was on the 10 p.m. news on April 13, and many of the participants were children and unmasked.

The crowd was paying tribute to the medical staff members for their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic. My compassion and best wishes go out to all health-care professionals. My confusion comes from the supposed social distancing requirements. Between the various church gatherings and the gathering of crowds such as the LSU/ Ochsner event, mixed messages are sent to the community(ies) as to just how serious we are or should be toward social distancing.

Have I missed something here?
