WILL A TAX INCREMENTAL FINANCING DISTRICT FOR NORTH MARKET BRING A SMOOTHIE FOR COMMISSIONER JACKSON?

Caddo Commissioner is doggedly pushing for the creation of a parish Tax Incremental Financing District (TIFD) for North Market stretching from the Amazon fulfillment facility to MLK Drive. He stated at a commission meeting that he was tired of having to drive to south Shreveport for a smoothie.

Jackson reportedly lives at 731 Neal Drive in North Highlands. A TIFD may increase the commercial real estate values within the TIFD district and those of neighborhoods adjacent to the district. If that happens, his rent may increase - but that is NOT a commission issue.

What else is on Jackson's wish list is unknown.

Maybe he foresees Another Broken Egg, Whole Foods Market, Academy Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Sam's Club, Chico’s , Talbots, Bass Pro and silicon valley startups. He has not proposed a specific redevelopment plan and his proposed advisory committee is a pie-sharing group versus planners.

As always anyone who asks meaningful questions to Jackson can expect a big blow back that is based more on rage than facts. If a TIFD is a magic economic development elixir, then every commissioner should be demanding the same for their districts.
